I have had a passion for anything that has to do with our western history and heritage and when I saw this 280 page soft cover (The Cowboy Way: Wit. Wisdom and lore by Duane S. Radford) book on Amazon for a bargain price I immediately purchased it. I have read numerous books in the past on America’s western cowboy culture and philosophy; however, this is the first book I have read that also covered the Canadian cowboy history as well as the American experience. In fact the author weaves the Canadian and American cowboy history and heritage together in this volume. This very interesting and informative book covers an enormous amount of material. It begins with the history of cowboys both in Canada and the United States. This volume moves on to the following topics: Ranching history, famous ranches, famous cowboys and cowgirls, cowboy places, cowboy grub, cowboy horses, talk like a cowboy, tools of the trade, cowboy attire, outlaws and gunmen, rodeos, other notable cowboy events. Cowboy art and artists, cowboy poetry and music, country and western dance, wild west shows and rodeo performers, the wild west on the silver screen, great cowboy T.V. series, the long riders guild, the cowboy trail, tall tales and folk heroes, dude and guest ranches, cowboy books and magazine. If you are interested in the American and Canadian western and cowboy history this book is for you. There are also many excellent photographs in this text. I really liked this book even though I expected it to be just about the American Cowboy heritage history.Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J.
