Description
Orange vinyl re-issue. Limited edition deluxe 180gm vinyl LP pressing in gatefold sleeve . The classic 1971 album by UK band Tractor, appearing under a different name. Originally issued on Dandelion the album is now remastered and on heavier vinyl than the original which fetches £400 .A truly beautiful Progressive/Space Rock album, it mixes the epic quality of Led Zep with a spacey Pink Floyd feel and the mushroom weirdness of the Pink Fairies and Hawkwind. 'Willow' is a masterpiece of UK underground Rock and it's easy to see why John Peel signed this band way back in the early '70's. Nearly 20 years ago Colin Miles' See For Miles Records released this 2 on 1 cd containing guitarist/vocalist Jim Milne and percussionist Steve Clayton's first two releases, the first under the moniker The Way We Live and titled "A Candle For Judith" and the second under their more familiar name, Tractor. The highlights here are too many to mention, but in checking the track listing one will see the title, "Ravenscroft's 13 Bar Blues" named after the band's benefactor, John Ravenscroft, better known by his familiar BBC persona, John Peel, who indeed purchased the band's first PA system and other gear. Another standout track is "King Dick II" from the "A Candle For Judith" LP. The Way We Live/Tractor paved the way for 2 piece bands such as The Black Keys and The White Stripes, with Milne's guitar and Clayton's percussion and occasional piano or bass work producing a wonderfully full sound. There is no filler on either of these albums, and both are essential for fans of psychedelic and/or progressive rock, as Milne and Clayton's music refuses to fit conveniently in any single genre. Tractor is still active and 8 titles, including The Way We Live, are available thanks to manager Chris Hewitt and the folks at Ozit Records. The price may seem a bit steep on some of the recordings, but fear not, all the recordings are essential to any serious collectors of well written and well executed rock and roll. Unfortunately the band has had to sell the rights to some of their own catalog so get the discs while they are still available as they may soon disappear from the music market. Truly a sad commentary on the modern music industry. Bottom line, grab anything and everything by Tractor/The Way We Live and give it a good listen. You'll understand just how essential these recordings are.
