I am so sorry to have to write this negative review, I hate being negative. I tried to ignore Amazon's repeated requests for me to review it. But they kept coming so here is my review.I rated the book one star because that was the least possible. Really it didn't deserve that one star. I have read many books discussion the Biblical concept of Spiritual gifts, from a genuine Bible perspective. This one was much less that and more from a the perspective of a particular sect of Christianity that honors emotionalism and promotes spiritual pride in the sorts of "gifts" or thinks one supposedly can do because they have been so blessed by God. This orientation to spiritual gifts comes from a perspective that believes some people are more cherished by God than others and so are given these special skills. While it it absolutely true that God gifts His servants with skills and capacity to do what He has called them to do, this book was more about promoting meaningless showy things like speaking in jibberish (tongues) in a church service or a public prayer group as a means of showing oneself to be closer to God than others. All the gifts, in this author's perspective started with the speaking of unknown tongues. Even that was not properly interpreted. One might call this an Amway approach to Spiritual gifts. In the end it is more about promoting the 'gifts' themselves than it is about promoting the one giving the gifts. The author failed to recognize that, in the Bible, when such experiences are mentioned, the language spoken was in that of some of the hearers and not of the conscious knowledge of the speaker himself or herself. In scriptures where we read about the 'tongues' it says that if it is a gift at all, it would be the least of them because it does nothing for others, only making the speaker feel better about himself. For the author, the finding of one's spiritual gifts starts there, but that is a false foundation.I believe in the gifts but not in the prideful way this author presents them. Sorry, I can approve of this book for the general body of Christ. I hastily deposited this book in a place where it can never be read again by anyone. It is not worth the price, even if it was free.I used this resource as well as others to craft my churches Spiritual Gift Assessment Program. The attendees responded well to the evaluations section and I was able to incorporate a decent amount of gift explanation into my curriculum. It is definitely good for group or personal assessment of the gifts that God has given you and how you might put those into practice in His Kingdom. It was more of a survey driven book rather than a teaching on the spiritual gifts. I can see it's usefulness in certain groups, but not an intended study of God's purpose and honing of gifts. This resource is useful for my PhD research on tghe Holy Spirit and spiritual gifts, their theology, nature, number, uses and abuses..Definitely the way to go if you're looking to find ins your spiritual gift and be useful in the body of Christgood job. thanks.this was not well done and while to condition of the copy sent was very good the work does not translate into a useful formatGreat read!
